YEAR
2014
Dues
Treasurer Keith Owens would like to remind all KARC
members of the new year, bringing with it the annual
dues at the bargain price of $20, same as last 25 or 30 years!! Postal money order, debit card, target gift
cards are not accepted. Cash or check
works, same as Hardees.
2013
KARC Christmas Party
The KARC annual Christmas Party was held at the old
Mead Cabin on December 14th.
We estimated 75-80 members participated, and it looked to be the best
attended in many years. It was good to see some new (and younger) members joining the
usual crowd. The food was great and everyone had a good time socializing and
eating. Thanks to the behind the scenes effort of Mike Smith, Jim Collier, Keith
Owens, and especially Daris and Nell Hartsock. Daris and Nell are
always the first to arrive (3pm) and the last to leave. The meat was provided
by The Golden Corral and hand delivered by Keith Owens. There wasn’t as much
meat left over as usual but there was plenty of leftover food. One KARC member usually delivers that to the
local Salvation Army.
Ailing
Members
Since our December meeting, we have had several
members with ailments. Ray Wilhelm reportedly had a trip to the Emergency room
and is now home. Fred Dotson is currently in the hospital and hopefully
recovering. Norman Davis had a bout with
appendicitis, and is now home and recovering. Jay Gillette has been battling
health issues for a good while, and now his caretaker wife, Patsy, also has
health issues. Remember them in your thoughts and prayers.
Golden
Corral 2014 Meal
Deal
If you weren’t at the December meeting, or couldn’t
hear, Keith Owens announced that the manger of Golden Corral had told Keith she
would have to raise our buffet prices slightly this coming year. The new price
would be $11.38. Before anyone starts sweating and wrenching their hands,
consider that a trip through any fast food drive thru could be $6 or $7. It’s still a good deal and a good place for
the club to meet. Fortunately, there did not seem to be a lot of grumping after
the meeting. If you can afford a street rod or other classic vehicle this
shouldn’t bother you!!!
2014
Show and Cruise Sponsors
For those not attending the December meeting, the subject
of our upcoming 2014 Wilderness Trail Run and Super Cruise events was
discussed. We are always looking at the possibility of losing some of our
advertiser/sponsor supporters. All
members are encouraged to explore new avenues of sponsorship/advertisers,
and/or door prize donations.

Machines & Gossip
Did you know?
One hundred years ago in January of 1914 Henry Ford raised the salary of
all his workers to the unheard sum of $5 per day.
Lots of KARC members have in the past done business
with DB Electrical Rebuilders on hwy. 36. They had continually gone more toward
internet sales, and last March had moved out of the location to do strictly
internet sales. I (Sid) had incorrectly thought the complete business had
moved. We recently found the original alternator, generator,
starter rebuild section is still in business under the name Boones Creek
Starter/Alternator. Rob Tipton the new owner reports he may install a lift to
do in-house starter or electrical work. Rob has worked the shop section for
over 20 years. He has also wired a few antique and street rod vehicles. As of this writing Rob and Gray NAPA are the
only local businesses that offer custom length battery cable
assemblies. He is also a new advertiser with us.
KARC roving reporter Charlie Ball has been keeping
track of Norman Davis 40 Ford Coupe project. Charlie reports until Norman’s
untimely visit to the ER, he was making significant progress.
As per Charlie:
The body had been soda blasted, a .040 over 350 Chevy was being built by
Norman, TCI front and rear suspension had been installed with a M11 power rack,
9” Ford with the TCI leaf springs, Speedway tubular center section with trans
mount, Speedway recessed firewall, and Dennis Carpenter rear pan have all been
installed. Welding was done by an original KARC member Johnny Goins. Paint color is scheduled to be black. The body was
very straight and rust free for the most part. Body work by
“Bob the Body Man”.
KARC member Johnny McLellan
reports if you are looking to do that popular black and white checkerboard
flooring for your garage, man cave, or even better the dining room, the only
place you can buy it locally is the Home Depot.
Johnny has done an extensive search locally, and reports the cost is
very reasonable.
Mike Smith continues updating his 62 Bubbletop. In
addition to interior mods, he and his buddy Darell are repainting the hood and trunk, with part of the
hood having a black satin finish, accomplished with the clear coat!!
Chris Shelton has made good progress on his 67 Fairlane. After trying different products and methods of
spraying bedliner on the floor and inner fenders he
has found the product he is happy with. This particular bedliner
has the ability of color tinting and sprays well. He also plans to use some of
this product inside the trunk area, rear inner quarters, etc. The Fairlane is close to being released from the rotisserie, at
which time the suspension will begin reassembly.
Eddies Rod Shop’s 34 Ford Coupe flagship project is
currently being treated to an all stainless steel exhaust being fabricated with
SS 90’s etc. All joints are tig welded and smoothed
with the end result looking like mandrel bent tubing. Mufflers are
bolted to the exhaust on both ends with custom water jet cut stainless flanges,
suspended by custom cut stainless
hangers and heavy duty rubber supports.
The Dec. 22nd Times News Metro section featured a nice
Vince Staten article about his Griswold Gang’s annual journey checking out
Christmas decorations. Publicity Hound Dick Cartwright was part of a group
picture wearing
special T shirts that Dick had coincidentally purchased!!
Jim Bledsoe continues making progress on his 34
Dodge 1 ton panel, VSRA official vehicle.
He was close to making his self imposed deadline of having the entire
body under primer as of January 1. Goals are good. Even if you are a day or two off.
Jerry Collins reports he is making good progress on
a friends Chevy pickup. Jerry has at least one personal project awaiting
him. Jerry is making good use of that
new garage he completed last year. He just has too much room!!
Bruce Roberts was recently asked if he was making
progress on his 36 Ford pickup. To which he replied: No Heat, No Progress. Bruce has a new
350 crate engine awaiting, and has just had a 2004R
overdrive tranny overhauled to attach to the
350. Bruce reports the 200 is the same
length as a 350 turbo, but does have a different rear mount location.
We Hurd Glen Armstrong was
chauffeured to a Christmas dinner in a furrin auto,
Toyota, that is.
We also Hurd a KARC member
purchased a new heat pump from Davis Heating and Air and is now complaining
that he didn’t even get a complimentary hat.
I (Sid) just installed a Lokar
shifter for the 700R4, 41 Chev project. This was a tail mounted version, which for me
(Sid) worked out well. Simple, and you can easily go
fore and aft 2 inches upon installation.
